Island Hospital in Penang celebrated the grand opening of its Peel Wing expansion on 11th November 2022. The 600-bed private facility features 14 operating theatres, personalised health screenings, renal transplants, robotic-assisted surgeries, and more. The new wing also houses nuclear medicine imaging and a rehabilitation and physiotherapy centre equipped with AI-guided physical and cardiac rehabilitation.

The Peel Wing marks the culmination of the first phase of the hospital’s Island Medical city project and is connected to the current hospital building, the Macalister Wing, via a 120 metre-long underpass walkway, the first of its kind in Penang.

New centres of excellence at the Peel Wing include Nuclear Medicine and Radiotherapy, with a state-of-the-art Siemens Biograph mCT PET/CT scanner and the Varian TrueBeam radiotherapy system with HyperArc, while the new Rehabilitation & Physiotherapy centre is equipped with a complete DAVID Solution rehabilitation and gym equipment.
