In conjunction with World Transplant Day, Island Hospital organised a series of awareness programmes to highlight the importance of organ donation and transplantation.
The event began with a Media Sharing Session on Organ Donation, bringing together representatives from the government, healthcare leadership, clinical specialists, and the public healthcare sector to discuss the life-changing impact of organ donation for patients awaiting transplants.
The session was graced by YB Daniel Gooi Zi Sen, Penang EXCO for Youth, Sports and Health, alongside Ms Lim Kooi Ling, CEO of Island Hospital. Also sharing their expertise were Dr Sritharan Subramaniam, Consultant Urologist, Dr Vijaya B. Ramasamy, Consultant Nephrologist, and Dr Chong Shu Juen, Intensivist from Hospital Pulau Pinang, who spoke on the importance of strengthening organ donation awareness and transplantation services in Malaysia, particularly in Penang.
An educational session was also conducted by Dr Mohamed Shafik from the Organ Procurement Unit, Hospital Pulau Pinang, for Island Hospital staff, providing greater understanding of organ donation, the transplantation process, and the vital role the community plays in giving patients a second chance at life.
As part of the initiative, Hospital Pulau Pinang’s Hospital Management Division and Organ Procurement Unit also organised an Organ Donation Awareness Booth at Island Hospital’s Grand Lobby, Peel Wing, where members of the public could learn more about organ donation and the registration process.
Island Hospital extends its appreciation to all speakers, collaborators, and participants for supporting this meaningful initiative. Together, we hope to inspire greater awareness and encourage more people to consider the life-saving gift of organ donation.
