The neurological team at Island Hospital provides complete, compassionate care for the full spectrum of conditions related to the brain and nervous system.

Neurology – Diagnosis and care for conditions that affect the body’s nervous system.

Disorders of the brain, nervous system and spinal cord are usually diagnosed with a neurologic examination. It is also important to understand that mental illnesses are typically classified separately from disorders of the central nervous system. Major neurological disorders include stroke, Cerebral Palsy, speech and language disorders, tumours of the brain, and movement disorders such as ParkinsonÕs disease and HuntingtonÕs disease.

Neurosurgery – Surgery on the brain, spinal cord, and nerves.

Our neurosurgeon manages brain tumours and tumours of the spine, spinal cord and peripheral nerves. Other conditions that may require neurosurgery include head trauma, which may arise as a result of injuries to the head.

A complete team of neurologists, neurosurgeon, radiologists and physiotherapists (for occupational therapy, physiotherapy and speech therapy) supports you with treatments and neuro-rehabilitation therapy to get you back on track fast.

Our team is able to use the constantly updated technology and surgical techniques to treat even the most complex neurological conditions. Our specialists consult across multiple disciplines in order to accurately diagnose and formulate individualised treatment plans for the better option possible outcomes.
