I have sent my patients to Prof Mr TJ Wong for decades and have known him as a doctor for 45 years. He is a sincere, patient, helpful and kind surgeon. He has a very versatile skill set and experienced in his field, skillful and knowledgeable as well. He has never been selfish with his knowledge and always keen to teach the younger surgeons and medical students.
As a GP, I have utmost confidence in his capabilities and skills. I have been referring patients to him for more than 30 years, and I have not once had reasons to question his judgment and professionalism. Most of all, my patients have all been very satisfied and grateful to him and spoke highly of his skills and medical knowledge.
Having saved many lives, and done remarkable work, he is indeed a household name in Penang and the Northern region of Malaysia. I will not hesitate to continue to refer friends and patients to him as I have faith and confidence in him.
A year ago I was diagnosed with Hepatitis C, and was treated by Dr Seow Eng Lok, and all was good. However, after a few follow up treatments later, Dr Seow discovered some abnormalities in my CT scan and referred me to Prof Mr TJ Wong.
Unfortunately, there was cancer in my liver. I was very disheartened but Prof Mr TJ Wong reassured me that he will do his best to help me. He was quick to perform the necessary operation on me, and now I am cancer-free, and have picked myself up. My appetite has returned, and I feel better than before.
I have always believed in Prof Mr TJ Wong, even my daughter and grandson see him for surgeries and treatment, and he has never failed us. I will not think twice to put my entire family under the care of Prof Wong!
In 1988, I was referred to Dato Dr Robert Ding for gastritis. After the necessary treatments, I had remained healthy after that until year 2000 when I collapsed in front of my office. Dr Ding once again was at my aide, and performed an emergency operation on me. I had internal bleeding - in my stools, and was suffering from hepatitis. He meticulously monitored me every three months and my condition soon took on tremendous improvement.
Unfortunately in 2002, I was down with recurring fever, and back to Dr Ding I went. He took one look at me and was quick to diagnose the problem as typhoid. I was confident Dr Ding knew what to do, and trusted him completely.
At the same time, I was also unlucky to have hernia. That was when Prof Mr TJ Wong attended to me. He explained to me very carefully on my condition and the consequences. Having two very experienced doctors from Island Hospital attend to me, I felt at ease, knowing that their best interest was to give me the best medical carepossible.
I am supposed to return for a consultation to see Prof Mr TJ Wong, and it is now 4 months overdue. I have recovered so well from my health issues, that I do not feel the need to see them at the moment.
I have never hesitated and will never hesitate to refer any of my family and friends to these two doctors. They are indeed a gem to the hospital, always keeping the mood light and not intimidating, regardless the situation.
It started back in 1995 when traces of faeces were seen in my urine. I went to number of doctors and professors in Jakarta, who all couldn’t pin point my problem. Some said it was gallbladder stone, but it wasn’t until I had the final diagnosis which shocked me. I was diagnosed withcancer of the liver. I thought it was the end of the world, and ending my life swiftly was my only way out. I contemplated suicide.
Thankfully a relative of mine from Penang recommended that I seek consultation at Island Hospital. I had nothing to lose, so I took a trip to Penang to see Prof Mr TJ Wong. After going through a series of tests and gastroscopy, I was found to have colo-bladder fistula. Whatever it is, as long as it is not cancer, and it was big relief for me and my family.
Needless to say, Prof Wong and the team at Island Hospital took very good care of me,and I went home with a clean bill of health. I have to say that, if it is not for him, I would have gone to Heaven, albeit prematurely.
Thank you, Prof Mr TJ Wong. I am indeed grateful.
It was just ten years ago that I was diagnosed with nose cancer. I thought then, that my life was over. My family was very young; I probably won’t be able to walk my two girls down the aisle when time comes. Barely two years later, it was like an affirmed death sentence staring me in my face, as the cancer had spread, and a tumour was found in my liver. I was crushed.
Believe me, it was a roller coaster ride as I consulted numerous specialists, in various hospitals and across states. I prayed, waited, and allowed anxiety to take over. Every doctor, every family, every friend, had a different opinion, and I was confused and afraid.
I finally ended up in Island Hospital where my Oncologist advised me to seek whomever who dares to perform the severely complicated operation on me. Another slap in the face, but I pushed on by faith. The tumour was growing, and it was then proposed to me that Prof TJ Wong was the best possible surgeon who could pull off this challenging feat.
He proposed the treatment plan, and was confident that he would be able to remove the tumour. It was a very intricate surgery, and to put it simply, I knew I had a chance to fight this battle together with this surgeon who had put some reassurance back in me. As a result, Prof TJ Wong was successful in removing 60% of the tumour in my liver.
Seven years and many chemotherapy treatments later, I am a proud holder of an MBA from the University of South Australia; I have written a book on my battle against cancer, and today, I am able to continue living a purposeful and fulfilling life as a father and husband.
Had it not been Prof TJ Wong’s professional medical intervention, all these would not be possible today. It has been a decade and counting, and my daughters are now grown up teenagers. Thank you Prof TJ Wong and the team at Island Hospital, for this new lease of life. The road to beautiful is indeed about how cancer can be winnable with God, and a good surgeon’s hands.
From Slipping Away to Living Life to the Fullest - I am a man living on borrowed time with a fantastic life quality, thanks to Prof. TJ Wong. In 1999, I was diagnosed with colon cancer and liver cancer and all the doctors in Kuala Lumpur told me that I have only 6 months to live and, even with operation, 1 year. A death sentence to me – an active person. I was devastated.
My paths crossed with a matron one day in a hospital in Penang and she advised, “You should see Prof TJ Wong in Island Hospital and if he can’t save me, no one can.” As a man desperate for a life-line, I flew to see Prof TJ Wong.
He told me frankly that 30% of the treatment work would come from him but the rest would depend on my body and attitude. We proceeded with the operation. After my operation and chemotherapy, the half of my liver that was removed grew back to even larger than the original size and my appetite regained to normal. I can go back to work and activities which I love.
It is already 2016 now, and I am still alive and healthy. This life, I live to my fullest, grateful and rejuvenated.
The cleanliness in Island Hospital is well taken care of. Information is computerised, so when patients come for medical check-up or consultation, it is carried out very smoothly. The front entrance of Island Hospital is like a Hotel.
